Why Blue Star Welcome Week?

Each year 600,00 military families move — and 70% move to homes that are not on military installations. Blue Star Welcome Week helps military families get plugged into their new communities so they can begin to form connections to the place they call home.

Activate your community and join us for Blue Star Welcome Week 2024, September 21st — 29th!

Host an event, welcome a neighbor, or volunteer — there are many ways to get involved.

Help us to cultivate inclusive communities where all families feel a sense of belonging!

Welcome Civilian Supporters & Organizations

Military- and Veteran-connected families are in our communities and need our support! Due to frequent moves and transitions, the task of establishing a sense of belonging to a community is far from easy for these families. There are so many ways you can help provide them a sense of welcome and belonging. Thank you for being here and looking for ways to become more connected in your community.

"Blue Star Welcome Week will feel like a big family reunion—something I always loved as a child. Enjoy learning more about your community and fostering connections with those in your neighborhood. Thanks BSF!"
Maria M., Senior Military Spouse

Blue Star Welcome Week is a great opportunity to reach out to new military families in your community and help them feel at home at their new duty location."
Alexandra G., Senior Military Spouse

One of my favorite military traditions is a ‘Hail and Farewell’ when members and families gather to welcome newcomers and to say thank you to those departing. Such gestures mean the world to military families. Constant change can be a challenge, but when our sacrifices and contributions are recognized it can make it all worth it. To those military communities who welcome us into your lives, your neighborhoods, your friend groups . . . THANK YOU!"
Mollie R., Senior Military Spouse

I just wanted to tell you and your wonderful staff, volunteers, and supporters a BIG THANK YOU! It was a blessing to see our 12 yr old & 16 yr old hang out just playing together. Your group gave our family a brief break to enjoy the outdoors without the stress of preparing. The kayaking tour was informative and relaxing. Thank you again for caring for our family and the military community."

I have been SO encouraged by all the amazing women today! As an AD member AND military spouse (and mom of 5), sometimes it feels like we have to choose! I’m reminded today that I don’t need to choose. Both roles are part of my life experience and are what I can bring to influence the world around me!"
