Show, local military community and local businesses answer Blue Star Families’ call to help Middletown family dealing with tragedy

Welcome Week is the new American tradition! From September 21st–29th, Blue Star Families is hosting 200+ events nationwide to welcome the 600,000 military families who move into new communities each year.

Today, U.S. Senators Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Dan Sullivan (R-AK), members of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC), announced the introduction of a bipartisan resolution to designate September 21-29, 2024, as “Blue Star Welcome Week.”

As the fifth annual Blue Star Welcome Week (September 21st-29th, 2024) approaches, Clarksville is demonstrating its strong support for the military community.

Welcome Week events are planned at schools, libraries, and more than 100 Starbucks locations across the country. There’s also a special focus this year on bringing back good old fashioned block parties as a way for servicemembers and their families to get to know their neighbors and make new connections.

When it comes to military life, there is only one constant: change. With that constant upheaval comes the task of service members and their families trying to consistently integrate into new communities – and it’s overwhelming and exhausting.

Pass Christian Public Library is partnering with Blue Star Families during Blue Star Welcome Week. Welcome Week was designed to raise awareness and support military families within local communities. During this week Pass Christian Library is inviting all local military families to join them.

More than 600,000 military families move across the country every year because a spouse or parent is on active duty. Now, the Blue Star Families Missouri chapter is welcoming military spouses and children who have recently moved to the area.

Julia Kim, an eighth grader at Frost Middle School, is one of the 134 military-connected students who make up almost 11% of the school’s student population. She is currently in her third year in FCPS and is an ambassador to help other military-connected students feel welcome.

Welcoming neighborhoods, empathetic educators and compassionate local businesses create a safety net that allows military families to thrive.
